Catlab was born from the merger of the Laboratories of the Hospital Universitari Mútua de Terrassa and the Consorci Sanitari de Terrssa. In June 2012 the laboratory of Fundació Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Martorell was also merged with Catlab.

Before the merger, the characteristics of the respective laboratories were:

Laboratory of the Hospital Universitari Mútua de Terrassa

  • 3.3 million tests/year
  • 90 workers
  • Labor agreement: "Private Clinics"
  • Strategic Alliance with GeneralLab (EgarLab 2002-2008)
  • New logistics building: relocation of the central laboratory of the group and decision to upgrade technology
  • UNE-EN ISO 9001:2000
  • Training of medical residents

Laboratory Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa

  • 3.6 million tests/year
  • 80 workers
  • Labor agreement "XHUP" (Public Hospital Network of Catalunya)
  • Comprehensive Automation since 2004
  • Unsuccessful attempts to merge with LRC (2002) and Parc Tauli(2005)
  • UNE-EN ISO 9001:2000
  • Training of medical residents

Laboratory Fundació Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Martorell

In June 2012 the laboratory of Fundació Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Martorell (FHSJDM) was also merged with Catlab

Objectives of the merger

The principal objectives to achieve were:
  • To free space for patient care in both hospitals.
  • To take advantage of economies of scale
  • To augment technical capacity through cutting edge technology
  • To broaden the menu of high level, quality analytical services
  • To promote the adoption of information technologies
  • To widen the geographic and population service area
  • To advance the collaboration between CST and HUMT, stimulated and promoted by CatSalut

Catlab to begin its activity in June 2008, with a work volume of 3200 tests per day.
